Submissions

We accept poetry, prose/short fiction, creative non-fiction, and art (in any combination and anything in between)! In terms of genre, we want it all; we love whatever you're passionate about and inspired by. Be creative! Be imaginative! Give us something we can think about.

Unfortunately, we are only able to accept unpublished pieces. However, we do accept pieces published only on personal blogs and websites! If you're unsure if your piece counts as unpublished, feel free to ask!

You can submit all works to our email, Editors@NineMusesReview.com with "submission" in the subject line! Send as an attachment (PDF or word) or in the body of the email! If sending an attachment, please send all work in one attachment. Please no Google Docs (hard for us to view!)

Feel free to include a third-person author bio of around fifty words or less with your submission! It's not required; if your work is accepted, you will be given the opportunity to send or revise your bio!

A cover letter is not required, and will not impact the status of your submission, although a short one is appreciated :) There's no need to address the editors by name: "dear editors" or even "hello, here's my submission" work fine! 

(EDITED AS OF ISSUE TWO) We do our best to answer submissions as quickly as we can! We aim to respond to all submissions within a month (and often much less than that)! During our annual contests, response rates to general submissions may be slower as we also process the contest submissions. If it has been more than two or three weeks, feel free to email us to inquire about the status of your piece and we will get back to you as soon as we can. :)

Yes, absolutely! If your piece is accepted elsewhere, please do let us know so we can take it out of consideration and say congrats :)

Guidelines differ by category: please send up to five poems or artworks, and up to two pieces of short fiction or creative nonfiction, both under 3000 words.

Yes! Feel free to submit to all categories. If you've already submitted to a category, please do wait until next open submission period to submit to that category again.

We have four open reading periods: in the winter, spring, summer, and fall. Each reading period usually remains open for two months. Additionally, we read twice a year for contests (one fiction and one poetry, both generally towards the end of the year). For more information on contests look for our separate contests page!
